For those of ye, like me, who do not like your serious poetry too heavy, the brand new issue of Lighten Up Online is out.
Featuring some of the best light verse in these islands (I bribed Martin Parker, the editor, with Guinness to get in there when he was over here for Strokestown), it has as its ethos the rather preposterous notion that light verse is not inferior to, but different from, serious poetry. An art form in itself, so to speak. As if Heaney could have written Ballade of a Bulbous Ditto...
But its a great read and the competition "Ode to a Household appliance" produced some very funny results....
