"Seven bums and fourteen legs,
a brazen ecstasy which begs
the question some of us are asking -
is Peter Goulding multi-tasking?"

World Cup 2010 - Day 10

Paraguay 2 Slovakia 0 (Group F)

In downtown Bratislava, near The Grand,
Beyond the high-class hat shop and the sauna,
An ice-cream parlour sits upon the corner
That serves the finest milk shakes in the land.

Chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla,
The queues begin to form from eight o’clock,
Stretching down the street and round the block,
Served with style directly from the chiller.

The national team, however, makes mistakes,
Desperate defending fraught with terror,
Prone to almost every sort of error.
Suffice to say, they’re really not great shakes.
Italy 1 New Zealand 1 (Group F)

They call it a shock but its much more than that,
It’s an insult to national pride.
Never have World Cup hopes fallen so flat –
A draw ‘gainst a very poor side.

The papers back home will spew scorn and disdain
On the players who failed to perform.
The wheels have come right off their World Cup campaign
And will herald a media storm.

The cope will come in for a heap of abuse,
His tactics dismissed and despised.
The headlines will scream out that he is no use,
Restraint will not be exercised.

Yes, supporters will dish out the filth and the fury
On the New Zealand coach and the team.
For really, if they can’t even beat the Azzurri,
Then the World Cup is only a dream.

Brazil 3 Ivory Coast 1 (Group G)

My shirt is the colour of saffron,
Saffron really suits me.
I look dandy in saffron,
Saffron really suits me

They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo.

Everyone’s diving ‘cept Drogba,
He’s playing vertically.
I knock the hell out of Drogba,
He knocks the hell out of me.

They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo.

Handball by Fabbiano,
Rest of the crowd all agree.
Handball by Fabbiano
Not seen by the referee

They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo.

I’m incensed about Kaka,
That wasn’t even a free.
We’ve lost our finest attacker,
Due to a bad referee.

They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo (quite rightly)
They call me Felipe Melo.

  1. No doubt about it - we Kiwis are demanding football fans. Dropping two points against minnows like Italy is a bit disappointing.
