The Good Room

Got this email today from goodroomtv@gmail.com No idea if its genuine. Isn't this what people used to call a parlour, as in If you're Irish...?
The phrase 'potential TV programme' rings alarm bells.
Hello,

We are spreading the word about a potential TV programme called 'The Good Room,' and we're just doing some preliminary research. Many people either grew up with, or knew somebody with, a so-called Good Room. Some people called it their Front Room. Basically, it was a room that people seldom visited. It was reserved and preserved for important visitors, like the priest or yankee cousins. Because the room wasn't frequented a lot, its decor quickly become outdated. The atmosphere grew musty and cold. Of course, this didn't happen to all Good Rooms. Some were occupied every Sunday, or on other special days of occasion.

We are looking for people to share their memories and stories of their Good Room or a friend's/relative's Good Room, funny or sad. For some reason, the Good Room phenomenon is unique to Ireland. Why did we really have them? Who was admitted to them? Why have they died out?

We look forward to hearing from you.

The Good Room team.
