a brazen ecstasy which begs
the question some of us are asking -
is Peter Goulding multi-tasking?"

Stone and Crannog 28

Two great little publications dropped through my letterbox this week.

Stone (above) was the optional theme of the very wonderful Poetry on the Lake competition this year, held on Lake Orta in Northern Italia. I was fortunate enough to get a poem commended in the formal verse competition and was itching to go but my procreating children put the kybosh on it. And I'll probably never be shortlisted again. Anyway Stone - edited by festival coordinator Gabriel Griffin (herself no mean poet) - features the winning and shortlisted entries, including the very talented Helena Nolan, recent winner of the PK.

Yet again, I failed to make it inside Crannog's covers but Issue 28 is probably enhanced by this oversight. Fellow Poetry Ireland Introductions series 2010 Ed O'Dwyer is in there and Seamus Harrington's now legendary Cook's Northwest Passage which thoroughly deserved his WOW nomination. Galway's Peggy Gallagher, a lovely, natural wordsmith is also featured and Montreal's Carolyne van der Meer demonstrates that poetry is not her only forte with a piece of writing that I think is called a short story. Congratulations to all, he muttered through gritted teeth. The next reading period incidentally commences November 1st

  1. I cannot believe you chose children over Italy. Respect.
