The Percy French prize (or the humorous verse section of the Strokestown Poetry Festival) shortlist has been announced. Seven names, so one assumes that someone has been nominated for two poems. All I know, it isn't me!
.
The very dry-witted Martin Parker from Devon is in there again - that's his third year on the trot to be nominated. Dee Gaynor, who was shortlisted at the festival last year, is back again, so hopefully she'll be able to make it over as well. No sign of Sean Lyons, who won for the past two years. I heard he was working on other projects and of course he's involved with Listowel week, so maybe there's a chance now for the rest of us!
.
I was fortunate enough to be shortlisted again, that's five years out of six now. In fact it's six poems in six years as I had two nominated last year. I was particularly happy that my other two entries were amongh the six 'nearly-made-its.' Festival takes place on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Best of luck! Maybe this is YOUR year.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Pete!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're not going to be the Susan Lucci
(18 Emmy nominations before winning the 19th time around!) of the Percy French Award :-)
This HAS to be your year--I know how much this prestigious prize would mean to you.
That's some track record Peter! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for that.I should just point out that I won the thing in 2008 and was second in 2009, so I've had my shot at it. Third place would be nice!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! First then second. It's downhill from here, no?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Peter, fly the flag for Ireland and I hope you win it for the second time.
ReplyDeletePS:It seems one of mine is one of those named as a "nearly-there" in the other competition. So I am going backwards...

Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteI want you to win first prize.
Congratulations Peter - fingers crossed for a second win!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate - yes, rapidly downhill
ReplyDeleteHi Helena - some of us would sell their grannies to have a poem named in the "also-rans" of the main competition!!
Thanks Titus - so do I secretly.
David - Thanks. I think it'll take more than fingers.
