I suppose I will always have a place in mye empty cavity where most people have a heart for the Golden Pen competition, which was the first serious poetry competition that I ever won (sounds like I've won hundreds but the count stands at two)
Run by the hard-working and immensely likable John Corbett, it is very much a one-man show down in Gurteen, co Galway, though the poems are sent off anonymously to be judged.
Now, I know what you're thinking. If that gobshyte can win, then surely I have a chance? And you'd be right. So get you're writing caps on. I'm afraid there's no online entry but all short-listed entrants are invited down to afternoon tea and made extremely welcome.
(Incidentally, I checked with John and postal orders, bank drafts and personal cheques are all acceptable)
Dear Peter: Do you win a golden pen which would be like the literary version of Willie Wonka? And does it come with chocolate! Congrats on your wins! You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the festival , Peter?
ReplyDeleteI quite fancy that pen but at present the muse has completely deserted me.
ReplyDeleteWhen's the deadline? I just might do this!

Hi Chic, I've been called many things but never 'amazing'
ReplyDeleteKate - I think it mainly revolves around under-age GAA matches!
Pat - that's because you're not trying. Come on, you're a lovely poet!!
Kat - should have mentioned it - April 1st
