The Francis Ledwidge International Poetry Awards have always seemed to me to be both prestigious and very well run, attracting a good sized entry from Ireland, the UK, the USA, Canada and beyond. The first three prizewinners are also entered in the Forward Prize in the UK.I have no idea if it is the recession to blame or if a poem destined for the waste-paper basket landed on the wrong pile but it appears that somehow I have been awarded second place in this year's competition for my poem Ctrl Alt Delete. It is somewhat mind-boggling that so august a competition could have made such an elementary mistake. The winner was Jessamine O'Connor who also won the iYeats in the summer.
