A big pot of chilled out poetry jam

Margaret is driving the pot of Poetry Jam this week and her pot is to compose a poem on the subject of 'chilling' on a nice summer's evening.

Chilling

I crossed the gushing stream at Oakfield Bridge,
the tiny flies around me madly milling.
Beneath the sweating sun, I climbed the ridge,
feeling like a sandwich slowly grilling.
The swirling mass about my head was filling
me with hatred for each pesky midge.
So now, I’m simply sitting here and chilling
but was I right to climb into this fridge?

  1. Yes - chilling and summer don't seem to quite go together :) Dr. M & I bought a bottle of insect repellent last week - let's see if we remember to use it!

  2. Funny guy! We have very few flying insects out here on the Oregon high desert .. I spend $0 on bug stuff.

  5. Yes! Loved the sandwich slowly grilling line.
Midges big here in Scotland, as you know.

  6. ha. there are days i would not mind climbing into the fridge...when i was young they had all those public service warnings about doing so in case you got stuck....but the gnats this year may be worth it...

  7. My heart resonated with:
"The swirling mass about my head was filling
me with hatred for each pesky midge."
I know that hatred! I have felt it for a few of nature's creatures. A perfectly Pete sort of piece.

  8. Those little bugs are horrid! We have mosquitos here and ticks as well. LOTS of DEET for me!
