a brazen ecstasy which begs
the question some of us are asking -
is Peter Goulding multi-tasking?"

WOW shortlists announced

When Michael Farry revealed some time ago that he had been shortlisted, it was obvious that I hadn't. Still, isn't it strange how you run down the names on the list, just in case... Just in case what? In case one of the winners has died in the meantime and they've replaced him with you? In case there was an awful mix-up which has now been righted? Anyway, the shortlistees are

Sarah Clancy (Galway) Hippy, Get A Job
Cheryl Donahue (Co Kerry) Unhinged
Michael Farry ( Co Meath) Waterlogged
Seamus Harrington (Cork) The Viking
Michael Massey ( Co Kilkenny) At Annaghmakerrig
Pete Mullineaux (Co Galway) Inflation Theory
Patricia O'Callaghan (Dublin) Absence
Michael O'Connor (Dublin) Ulysses Returns
Clare Sawtell (Co Galway) Sea-Monk
Lenora Steelle (Canada) Kathy

Niamh Boyce ( Co Kildare) By Dumb Waters
Gerry Galvin (Co Galway) For The Love Of Daisy
James Lawless (Dublin) Lovers Who Wound Blame It On The Storm
Pat Mullan (Co Galway) Galway Girl
Brendan Murphy (Co Galway) On Site
David Murray (Dublin) School's Out
Máire T Robinson (Galway) The Malignant Enemy
Moya Roddy (Co Galway) Butterflies
Carolyne Van Der Meer (Canada) Mausoleum
Alison Wells (Co Wicklow) Sad About The Plumber's Uncle

Three winners from each category will be announced on Friday April 30th (same evening as the Percy French final in Strokestown)

  1. 5 out of 10 poets are women and 3 of the 5 men are called Michael. Is there a pattern?
