Listowel

I suppose Listowel is one of the festivals / competitions that has passed me by. The festival looks great fun with buckets of interesting workshops but I don't get enough holidays from work to go down.
Anyway, deadlines for the numerous competitions expires tomorrow but if you haven't submitted, I think you're too late as they seem to only accept snail mail entries.
I didn't enter. I've always found the fee a bit exorbitant and it seems they only announce one winner - no shortlists.

  1. I entered based on the following logic. The fee is high and only one winner is announced, hence, not many people will enter and with a small field, my chances of winning are high. Mind you, I thought the same thing last year. And the judge writes poetry that is nothing like mine. But hey. I can always type with my fingers crossed

  2. We have a town of Listowel about 40 minutes north of us. Every year there's a big St. Patrick's Day festival. I've never been because usually St. Patrick's Day is befallen with blizzards.
You Irish have so many opportunities for getting your work out there. It's not as easy over here.

  3. Hi Kate, yes, I see your point, but basically, as my wife always tells me, I'm incredibly tight-fisted and don't need much of an excuse to hang on to my money!
Kat, yes, we're the land of scolars alright, if not saints. But hey, the world's getting smaller, many publications / competitions accept submissions online, so in that sense Ontario is as far from Listowel as Dublin is.
